The Kevin Dowling Scholarship Fund has been established to promote the education of three students that are enrolled in a Catholic School Program for individuals with different levels of skill or functional abilities. We would like to honor the memory of Kevin by awarding these scholarships to students that serve the community and have the attitude necessary to succeed in the future as a responsible and caring adult.
The recipients of the Scholarships are from three different schools:
About Kevin Dowling
Kevin Dowling, a son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Kevin was kind, honest, and fun to be around. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed sports. Baseball and football were two of his favorites, however there were many times during the summer you could spot him on a beach playing sand volleyball.
Kevin was no stranger to hard work. He put 110% into everything that he did. School was very important to Kevin, though it didn’t always come easy to him. At a young age Kevin was diagnosed with a learning disability. This didn’t stop him from enjoying school. With the support of his parents and the help of teachers, in-school programs and tutors Kevin worked hard to achieve good grades.
Kevin was accepted into Mt. Carmel High School, and became co-captain of the Mt. Carmel High School football team.
Kevin became very ill and collapsed of heatstroke while at football practice during the extreme heat on August 11, 1995. For a time it appeared the Mount Carmel senior would recover. Kevin underwent a liver transplant August 14th 1995 after he was downgraded from serious to critical. He suffered liver failure and cardiac arrest and passed away August 26, 1995.
The Fund was established in 1995. The Kevin Dowling committee is made up of family and friends of Kevin and the Dowling Family. Our goal is to keep Kevin’s name alive. We are inspired by the way Kevin lived his life. Kevin lives on in all of us.
